Active Learning in the Botany and Ecology Classrooms Using Free Resources from HHMI BioInteractive.

Many botanical phenomena ranging from photosynthesis to ecosystem processes can be difficult to demonstrate in a standard classroom or lecture hall. Videos, data point assignments, case studies, and interactive online resources can overcome these difficulties by providing active learning experiences in the classroom that demonstrate and allow students to explore fundamental principles. In this half-day workshop, participants will explore the different types of plant and ecologically-focused resources available through HHMI BioInteractive. In addition to experiencing different types of resources, workshop participants will explore how to modify these resources to meet their specific needs and student learning outcomes. Participants will also discuss strategies to scale these resources for different class sizes.
